Michael
Asher woke-up on a sandy beach under a red striped beach umbrella.
It was a brilliant scene. The sun shone from a cloudless sky and the
sea was a deep blue calm that vanished on the distinct line of the
horizon. But when a brief conversation discloses that he can't
remember where
he is or how he got there, he begins to feel uneasy. And when he
discovers that he doesn't know who
he is, and that the older woman in his hotel room is not his mother
but his lover, he flees in fear to the edge of oblivion.
The
search for his identity leads Michael Asher from the sun-drenched
holiday world of the Greek island of Karpathos to the austere
monastic state of Mt Athos where only men are allowed. To find
his real self he must first pierce the inner boundaries of his mind
and then walk into a world of shady deals and broken promises, a
tough world that can only lead him to insanity and death.
